Can't move service until previous account is canceled?
I just moved to a new home and was trying to move my account, but the previous owners apparently still have an active account at the address. When I called to move my service, the rep said that they have to cancel their account first. I have no way of getting in touch with these people so they can cancel so how am I supposed to set up new service?

That’s how it works only 1 account per address and only the account owner can cancel it. I’m sure the previous tenant will cancel soon as who wants to pay for a service they aren’t getting.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I have to sit around and wait potentially another month until they get their bill until I can get service? Way to go AT&T!

It’s not just AT&T it’s all providers and it’s mandated by the fcc you can try a bbb complaint which will result in a call from the office of the president who are better equipped to assist.

If you used a real estate agent to purchase the house, have your agent contact their agent. Ask that they cancel their service so you can start your service.

You had working service at the old address?
if yes, whoever moved in after you is having the same problem… they cannot have service installed until you move your service or cancel your service.
The previous account may be having similar issue, they may desire to move their existing service but cannot and do not want to cancel, therefore they are waiting the same as you.
To resolve these potential issues, the solution would be nobody can move service, must cancel and establish a new account at new address with related $99 installation charge.
Additionally, the way I understand the TOS is if they previous account did or does cancel their service they have the service until end of billing cycle. If had 2 weeks left on current month, you could not install / activate your account until their timeframe has expired.
May want to consider another service for 30 to 90 days, in the meantime you should cancel your service, return all equipment, so someone else at old address could order / install service.
Just my thoughts…
