$45/mo for life pricing on AT&T Fiber apparently means until AT&T feels like changing it on you

We moved into our home in 2016. Shortly after AT&T expanded their fiber network into our area with an exciting promotion of $45/mo for life if we signed up right then with them. Sounded like an excellent deal so we did. We have been in our home for over 6 years and the price has been increased on us at least 3 times. Each time I called AT&T to explain, the best they tried to do was see what other promotional offers were available. When I asked about receiving a copy of the original terms and conditions from when we signed up in 2016 I got bounced around to 3 different groups within AT&T stating that each other group should have a copy of the document what I was requesting, yet nobody could supply anything.

No matter who I've spoke to I was told there was no way to get that promotion or any record of it and received excuse after excuse until I just gave in. Seemed like either their representative in charge of area expansion had some predatory false statement advertising or these deals must really be affecting AT&Ts bottom line since they just done want to honor them.

So here I am again, because our bill is getting increased, yet again, next month. Even though AT&T is claiming it is not, because they are offering an "offset" for autopay, until that promotion runs out too. Has anyone had any luck getting their lifetime promo back, any ideas for where I call or who to speak to?

If it wasn't an offer you found on att.com, but rather from someone trolling the neighborhood, then it sounds like they just lied.  Many times these people are not real AT&T employees but their company may be a reseller. I think in some cases they even get AT&T badges although upon close examination it will spell out that they're a reseller.

How much have the increases been? What are you paying per month now? Att typically raises rates $5 every year or two. Deep in the terms of service that’s noted that it can be done.

I don't think that applies to the "for life" packages, or maybe at least some of them.  When our are first got fiber a friend signed up for 1Gbps for $70 for life (at the time that was a great deal).  That was like 6 yrs ago and he's still paying $70.

2016 fiber pricing and promotions…

There were (3) fiber price tiers (from memory) in 2016

1G fiber list $119 with $39 discount for 12 months making it $80 per month.

100/100 list $99 with $39 discount for 12 months making it $60 per month.

50/50, unsure of list or discounts but for $45 a month this was the likely service. ($60 with $5 discount?)

Lifetime for promotions I am aware of means for that address only (cannot move) and that speed tier (cannot change to a different speed or new promotion.

There were some deals available in Google Fiber cities that were not available outside those areas. From memory, Kansas City, Austin, North Caroline tri city and maybe Atlanta.

What city are you in, remember speed tier?

In 2016 would have been less than 3 million fiber locations in the entire 21 state footprint. Most were new construction greenfield subdivisions.

edit… a free for life offer in 2018…

Have Fiber 500 unlimited, I live in the greater Grand Rapids, MI area same address for the last 6.5+ years, and have not moved since signing up or changed the service to my knowledge.

Fiber started in Grand Rapids in 2016 and our neighborhood was in development during that period, specifically our home was new construction, a few other homes were completed.

We're sorry to see that your promotion hasn't remained the same over the years, as you were told it would, burdic22.

Thank you, tonydi, browndk26, and my thoughts, for the detailed and helpful information.

Although we may not be able to apply that same promotion to your account now, we can look through our system to see if there's a similar promotion available. Please let us know if you would like to proceed, and we'll send you a Direct Message to get started.

This also happened to me. I talked to support many times and they simply kept telling me that there's nothing they could do. It's aggravating that ATT doesn't stay true to their words
