Iphones need restart to connect to microcell
The microcell tower in my house works fine except for one thing. Every time I leave the area and return, I lose my connection. I have to turn my Iphone off and then on again to get it back. This used to happen occasionally, but now it happens consistantly. My wife's phone does the same thing. Is there a setting we have overlooked? Any thoughts on the issue are appreciated.

Which iPhone and iOS do you have? Resetting Network Settings can clear a lot of "oddities" out. Toggling Airplane mode works for some but is only a temporary fix. You might also want to check handing-off on the MicroCell setup page and I think there may be a setting on the iPhone as well depending on your model/iOS. FWIW, we have all kinds of iPhone flavore from a 3GS to the 6 and none have the issue you describe.

Marcus,
Me and my wife are experiencing the same thing, much more in the last month than before. Before it was only occasional. Forcing the iPhone into airplane mode long enough to come out and do a rescan of the network is the only way to get it back on. All the lights on the microcell are solid.
This, I believe, is consistent with a bad firmware update being pushed out by Cisco that makes *some* users need to turn off LTE in order to connect with the microcell. See my post I believe Cisco has sent out a bad firmware update from a few weeks ago, which is now closed. Otto will poo-poo this, I'm sure, but things are very different with me and my neighbor in the last month or so. Both on the LTE thing, which worked for a year, and these disconnections, which before were occasional and now more so.

And reset network settings will do no good, and you will lose all your wifi passwords.

Resetting Network Settings has helped some in the past and it does clear up all kinds of odd issues. I had to do that with my iPhone when the audible alerts weren't working correctly and it fixed it immediately. Yes, you will lose your pw's etc but it shouldn't be that big of a deal to put them back if you've kept track of them. Other settings will be affected as well but you just go thru you phone and see how you have it setup before resetting and re-enter. It is an Apple recommended procedure when things just aren't right with your phone. A pain for sure but the alternative is a phone that isn't working the way you want, and re-setting may be the only way to fix it. It is certainly worth a try if you go in knowing what will happen if other options don't work.

I have tried resetting network settings and it did no good. I still have both the LTE problem and the disconnection from the microcell problem.

1. After logging in, click on wireless
Click on 3G microcell
On the phone number associated with the microcell
Towards the bottom uncheck The box that says Handoff to sell towers.
Will make it so the micro cell does not try to hand off to a cell tower and will usually keep you on longer. remember always turn off LTE this always seems to help.

Huh? I do not see this option anywhere. On the page
Manage AT&T 3G MicroCell™ Settings
there is no option for this.

log in to myAT&T -> I Want To..... -> Manage my plan -> Manage 3G MicroCell -> Automatic Hand-Out (at the bottom of the top section) : Enable/Disable
FWIW, handing off has been an on-again/off-again iPhone issue for some since the introduction of the iPhone 5.
