3G Microcell Activation

So it's looking like it's impossible to register a 3G Microcell using a prepaid/gophone account.

Even though this page says you can.

http://www.att.com/att/microcell/

AT&T 3G MicroCell Registration Process

Instructions:

Register AT&T 3G MicroCell

To use the AT&T MicroCell, you will need:

  • AT&T postpaid voice plan or prepaid service using a 3G or 4G wireless device.

Did I really waste 300 bucks? I have U-Verse, DSL, and a Business UVerse account with AT&T and I can't get this activated?

😞

Wow, 1 Year Later.

Yes, I did indeed leave AT&T sold the Microcell on Amazon.

I'm using T-Mobile with a LG G3 and Wifi calling works beautifully. Never been happier with my service.

It is actually quite clear whether the MicroCell supports an account that's prepaid or postpaid.

Anyone knows that a prepaid account means that you do not get a bill every month. You must find a prepaid account every month. typically these accounts are for people who lack enough credit to get a post paid account – or people who are on a budget and or do not wish to get on a regular cell phone plan and simply pay as they go. These accounts do not qualify for a microcell and a microcell cannot be registered of these accounts

however, the microcell can be registered to a post paid account where you have a plan whether it has a set number of minutes or unlimited minutes, and a data plan, etc. You also pay a monthly bill for this service. A microcell can be attached to these accounts because it cost $19.95/month to have a microcell on your account. This is why it does not work with prepaid accounts because if you lack the funds in your prepaid account, the MicroCell would get deactivated, and AT&T does not want to deal with prepaid accounts constantly getting there microcells turned off

so as long as the microcell is attached to a standard post paid account that gets a monthly bill, then you can attach a prepaid or go phone or whatever to the MicroCell as long as it's using the AT&T network

People in this thread having problems, it's not the fact that you have a prepaid or go phone… It's the fact that you have a prepaid account that prevents the microcell from working. If you wish to keep your microcell and get it working then you need to convert or create a regular account when you get a monthly bill

Better yet, I cancel all AT&T services I have and move along. I'll be giving some of my other family members the 'push' they've been needing to make the switch too.

Goodbye to AT&T for good.

Charter and T-Mobile(Wi-Fi calling) here I come and for the record it does say PREPAID 3G or 4G Wireless device on the support page to register and that would include a prepaid wireless cell phone by definition.

You know it does.

I'm done with this thread, like I'm done with AT&T.

Bye.

How stupid. Just because you cannot follow instructions you abandon your cell phone service – especially one that has one of the best coverages and services in the country – not to mention you can travel to any other country and yourself only work without any other set ups. Although I would recommend adding an international calling plan before you go to another country so you don't get charged roaming fees. But setting up an ad in this microcell is quite easy and the directions are quite clear. If you were a go phone user or a prepaid user, then AT&T will probably not see you as they make most of their  revenue off people who have standard accounts and pay their bills every month

To be clear, the MicroCell does not cost anything other than the initial purchase price. You can add an ulimited number of minutes to the account if you choose to do so but it is not required.

The ability to own and register a MicroCell on a post paid plan is a "benefit" of sort for those who have a month to month contract with AT&T if they do not get adequate cellular coverage in their homes. The reasons why some choose to have a pre paid account is totally up to them and it is not for us to say whether it is for budgetary or credit reasons.

Ummm I get a $19.95 charge per month on my bill to use my microcell. It's been that way for 18 months now

@dduttonnc - there is no reason for you to be rude or comment in such a manner as you did to someone who is unhappy with their service  and chooses to move on. Please be polite.
