Troubleshooting your iPhone X
If you ever do run into any problems with your iPhone X, it usually can be fixed by 3 main troubleshooting steps.
Force Close the Application
- On iPhone X, swipe up from the bottom edge and pause to show the App Switcher.
- Long press on an app, then swipe up on the app to close or tap the red icon.
Reasons you will want to force close an application:
- Issues with the application
- iPhone going slow
Shut Down/Restart
Use either of the following methods to shut down iPhone X:
- Press and hold the Side button and Volume Up or Volume Down for 2 seconds. Then, slide to power off.
- In Settings > General, tap Shut Down. Then, slide to power off.
If the restart command is not working, a force restart may be needed. Follow the order of steps below to force restart iPhone X:
- Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
- Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
- Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
Some of the following situations where a Restart will fix the problem:
- Black screen
- Frozen screen
- iPhone going slow
- Delayed response
- Feature not working
- Touch Screen not working
Recovery Mode
- Connect your device to your computer using the cable that came with your device.
- Connect the iPhone to iTunes.
Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes, and it is running on your computer. - Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
- Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
- Press and hold the Side button for about 6 seconds, until the screen goes black.
- Continue to hold the Side button until the "Connect to iTunes" screen appears.
In these situations, you might need to use recovery mode to restore your device:
- iTunes doesn't recognize your device or says it's in recovery mode.
- If your screen is stuck on the Apple logo for several minutes with no progress bar.
- You see the Connect to iTunes screen.
- If you can't update or restore your iPhone
- If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up
