My phone is locked, but my device is not part of an AT&T plan or account
Hello,
I recently wanted to switch plans to another carrier because I wanted to get off my family's plan. I ported my number over to the other carrier using the transfer pin and account number, but I can't use the other carriers sim, due to device being locked. I tried using AT&T's online unlock, but it says the phone needs to be removed from the AT&T account. When we go to look at the account devices, my phone is not showing up. How do I remove a device from the AT&T account if the device is NOT there?
If anyone would kindly help me, I would greatly appreciate! I've had no cell-service on my phone because of this issue for almost a week now!

Everyone, PLEASE unlock your phones BEFORE you leave AT&T!!!
Unlocking should be simple, but sometimes it's not, and when it's not, it's a real hassle.
Not only do you have an issue with AT&T at this point, you're not an AT&T customer anymore. Much easier to get assistance when you're a customer, and you wouldn't be in crisis mode if you can't get it unlocked.

File a FCC or BBB complaint to get it escalated to upper management.

The person that owns your family plan that you just left is the account and the owner of everything. They would have to contact AT&T and have AT&T remove your device from their plan.

@Gary L
Right?!
If only there were some easy way to tell whether or not an iPhone was still carrier locked... 🤔

That’s a screenshot from an old iOS version. They now say Carrier Lock.
