iPad Air Gen 4 - Cannot use SIM from another carrier

I bought an iPad from AT&T last year. I paid off the device this year and tried to use it with another carrier. I verified that it was not locked through the device unlock tool. I then closed all my AT&T accounts and soon after got a new SIM from another carrier. That's when I found that I can't use it with another carrier. In the Cellular Data settings page there are only two options AT&T and Other. I have never been able to use other. If I completely erase and reset the iPad, I can see the cellular data connection bars from the other carriers SIM show for about 10 seconds. I have called AT&T support and asked for carrier visibility with no results. I do not know what else to do.

The physical Sim slot and iPads is never locked. If you want to save yourself the wait oh, get a physical SIM from your new service provider.

What AT and T does block, when you purchase and activate an iPad with AT&T, is the ability to use the carrier reveal program which allows you to use a different e-Sim.

   Please call AT&T and ask for the 'carrier reveal' for your iPad.

(this would have been easier as an existing customer.   Why At&t makes it so difficult is frustrating) 

Why has asking AT&T for the carrier visibility been unsuccessful?   Did they request your IMEI and research the device? Have they refused to do it or insisted it was already done?

Crowd Pleaser 4 @formerlyknownas I appreciate the info. But in this case the SIM slot is locked as well as not having carrier visibility. I understand that it may be rare, unheard of, or strange. That's why I'm here on this forum. I have exhausted all the other things I know to do. I asked for carrier visibility and spent over an hour on the phone with a customer service rep, but that was ultimately unsuccessful. I do not know if that is because he didn't fully understand and just said he did what I asked in order to get me off the phone. I will try again and ask specifically for "carrier reveal".
