iMessages and Notifications Delayed

iMessages and notifications are delayed unless I am actively on my phone. It started right after iOS 16.1.2 and I am currently on iOS 16.3. Messages show received anywhere between 3 and 10 minutes later.  Apple says all diagnostics are good. I have reset everything, switched Apple ID's, restored without data, restored with data, got a new phone, turned everything off then back on, got a new SIM, switched to e-sim and nothing has worked. It happens on cellular or wi-fi and I have a strong signal on cellular. I have a wi-fi iPad with the same account and get messages with no delay. Both are set up the same for iMessage. This is happening in AZ. I know it isn't the phone and have seen other posts about this being an AT&T issue in AZ specifically. It does not happen on my work phone on Verizon. When will this get resolved.

It can’t be an ATT issue, especially if it happens both on WiFi and cellular. Notifications and iMessages come from Apple servers and when you are on WiFi, ATT is not even involved. Strange issue for sure but it sure doesn’t sound like there is anything for ATT to resolve.

Except that it does not happen in airplane mode with wi-fi on. Somehow the cellular is affecting it.

@sandblaster Please read this entire forum. There are a bunch of people with the same problem and all seem to be in AZ...

FWIW, no issues here on any of our Apple devices. All seems normal. However, we will be in the Scottsdale area for Spring Training in about a week or so we'll see if we have issues when there.

I am have the same problem for over 2 month.. I live in Las Vegas. I have a ‘case’ number and call everyday to find out about the status. Technically assistant say call loyalty and loyalty says call technical assistance. Last time loyalty said so to cancel and pay $2266.00. All my notifications are delayed or do not get them at all. I have tried everything I mean everything to the phone. All 3 of my phones are doing this.. 2 of my phone are new and the other is a 12 pro max. It is not the phones it is the service. I have called Apple care as well. They said not hardware or software issues.

@Tsnow50  We just returned from the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and had no issues with messages being delayed. WiFi-C (WiFi Calling) and WiFi are both enabled as well as cellular. I even tried 5G and it worked fine (I usually leave my phone on LTE because 5G is not reliable at home). We even had a layover in Las Vegas and calls/messaging was fine with no delays that we could see.

iPhone 12 (16.3.1) and iPhone 7 (15.7.3, LTE only).

@OttoPylot Thanks for the update and I see that you are iOS 15.7.3. I didn’t have the problem until the 16.1.2 update. I suspect something in that update and subsequent updates isn’t playing well with the AT&T carrier settings or the hardware in the carrier equipment. If I use airplane mode with Wi-Fi, I don’t have the problem.

@Tsnow50  To be clear, my wife’s phone is on iOS 15.7.3. My phone is on iOS 16.3.1. We only use Airplane Mode on our phones when we are on an airplane. There’s no need for us to disable the phone’s cellular radio otherwise.
