Help! Phone Died Due to Water Damage on Vacation in Mexico

Yesterday, I took my iphone on a snorkel trip and had it in a waterproof pouch. But, somehow the pouch leaked. Now, I have the dreaded apple logo loop and I really need my phone for work and other purposes. I let it dry out overnight and everything. Still nothing but the loop. Does anyone know if you can buy a iphone in Los Cabos from AT&T store and then just replace the sim card with my old one?

Is this even possible? If not, I am open to ideas about how to fix this issue with the phone and the apple logo loop. I have tried connecting it to my computer. Nothing is working.

The ATT stores in Mexico are part of ATT Mexico which though owned by ATT, are a different company. I suspect any phone you buy from them may be locked to ATT Mexico which means your ATT SIM card won’t work. If you need to buy a replacement, what you need to find is an Apple store and buy the SIM card free unlocked version. Be aware also that if you have insurance, you need to put in your claim before switching to a different phone. The insurance only covers the imei of the last phone used on that line.

Thank you for your reply. Good to know my sim card won't work on an iphone I buy here. I keep trying everything to fix it...who knew how much a phone that doesn't work would disrupt your day in another country.

I  was just now able to get it to let us go through the software update and factory reset. It says 3 hours on the computer so I am hopeful this will work. I just need it to last another 48 hours and I will be back in the states.

You can try the ol' bag of rice trick. 24-48 hours in a bag of rice has worked for me in the past. Don't connect it to a charger until it's had time to dry out though.
