Delayed notifications from apps & messages

For quite a few weeks I’ve been having an issue with delayed notifications. The first time I receive the notification it will say something like “5 min ago” or “9 min ago” etc. The time varies, but they are intermittently delayed. I cannot make it happen on demand. It is happening with apps and text messages. I am also having an issue where my iMessages will be received delayed and will also come through as a text message and iMessage. It doesn’t matter if I’m on Wi-Fi, 5G, etc. I have been to Apple 4 times, have gotten a new SIM card and have gotten an entirely new phone. Nothing is helping. I have reset the phone, tried restoring from a backup and restoring from Apple ID. I have gone through every diagnostic and settings option possible. Apple is saying my only next step may be to start over with a completely new Apple ID in which case I will have to start over brand new. Has anyone experienced this or have a solution? Thank you!

Interesting that you guys are in AZ because I am too! I went a cruise and the problem completely disappeared and as soon as I came back the problem came back!

I've been with AT&T for almost 20 years so its disappointing I will have to pull the plug and switch providers, but at this point I've exhausted everything including what the OP has suggested above. This is definitely a provider issue... but what is frustrating even more is even their highest tier of support (I've spent hours) says they don't have a lot of these tickets coming through and made me feel like this was silo'd to my device. Clearly the internet tells a very different story.

I am literally at the apple store at fashion square mall right now as I type this message and she said she gets several people a day complaining about the same problem and it’s all AT&T. She said it’s definitely carrier specific

Well that answers that. Are they aware of any documented solution or timeline for AT&T customers? I swear when I go into the AT&T store they look at me like "We've never heard of this before". Even when they have escalated me to their Customer Service (Top Tier Support) I get the same feedback. I don't want to switch providers but this is rediculous for them not even to say "We are aware of the issue".

Also in AZ here too. Finally after weeks of the frustration from is (I assumed it was because my iPhone is 2.5 years old and cracked) I went to get a new iPhone. ATT rep told me is a specific issue between apple/iMessage and ATT network. There’s no resolution yet and even buying a brand new iPhone, I’m likely to have the issue still.

@Howlee is your issue specific to messages only? Mine is for any type of notification (5-12 minutes delayed).. so the whole Apple/iMessage and ATT Network response does not hold true to that. Maybe how AT&T talks to Apple's network is possible but it's so strange how it affects some but not all. One thing I've noticed as a pattern is that delayed notifications only happen when the phone is asleep. If I'm actively using it seems to work fine.. but once I put it down and turn the screen off is when the delays start happening.

@xecutiv83 the same thing happens to me too. It’s intermittent from all apps, not just messaging and once I wake the phone up, it will start receiving the delayed notifications.

I live in AZ, had this issue since iOS 16.2 beta came out. I think its just AT&T, my friends do not use AT&T and have 0 issues. Whilst my friends, and myself included, who have AT&T, have this issue. It's EXTREMELY annoying. This happens with every app that I receive notifications from.
