Convert Physical Sim to eSIM On A Cellular iPad on AT&T

On my iPad there is the option to convert to esim which I m thinking of doing. But in anticipation of a new ipad replacing my current one in the next few months I was wondering if the cell service would be transferred to the new one as it is with the phones and even Apple Watches. I’m considering doing this just to eliminate the physical sim, I’ve been swapping the same one into new iPads for several years now. Has anyone done this and does this occur with the activation of the new iPad and data transfer from the old? On my new Apple Watch the option appeared to either set up a new plan or transfer the existing one from the old watch. Is this how it would occur with iPads without a physical sim?

Hello @pappasbike, we are here to help with your eSIM and plan concerns.

Yes you will be able to transfer your plan to a new iPad in the future. As long as the old iPad is set up with eSIM.

Hello @pappasbike, we are here to help with your eSIM concerns.

To answer your questions if your device is offering eSIM, it is the same process as adding a new eSIM to your phone or watch.

iPads with an eSIM

If your iPad uses an eSIM, you may be asked to install a cellular plan when you set it up. If you aren’t asked, you can install one now:

1. Open Settings.
2. Select the notification AT&T Cellular Plan Ready to be Installed.
3. Follow the prompts on your device to add a cellular plan.

Review our article with steps and more info on how to Activate eSIM on Tablets.

What I wanted to know is if I convert my existing sim to an esim on an ipad that already has an active cell plan will that plan transfer to a new ipad in the future without any issues.

Previously I just swapped sims from the old device to the new one. But I’m thinking of doing away with the physical sim but want to make certain I won’t create a problem in the future when switching to a new device.

How can I transfer an iPad I just bought from employer which is ATT over to Verizon, my provider?
