Can lost SIM card be used for identity theft?

My son had his phone destroyed by some individuals and I've come to find that his SIM Card is missing from his damaged phone. Should we be concerned about potential identity theft and is there a way we can find out if his SIM card was used by someone in another phone?

The bigger concern is they will use your sim card and make long-distance phone calls or something else that will cost you money. You should log into your account and suspend his phone line. Replace the SIM card as soon as possible.

Other than the phone number, there is no information on the SIM card that can be used to steal identity

Thanks.  I have suspended the phone line, but I was worried that they could have gotten information off the SIM before I did that.  So would they be able to get into his apps, like his banking or pose as him on other apps he had on his phone?

There is no information stored on the SIM card other than the phone number. You can check your call and text logs to see if that number was used after the sim was lost.
