Samsung Galaxy S4 KitKat 4.4.2 update - BUGS! Air Gestures No Longer Work!
So I updated my Galaxy S4 to Kit-Kat 4.4.2 and now the air gestures no longer work. I can't wave to answer my phone. I can't use quick glance. Even in the gallery or internet browser none of the guesture registers. I can see that the sensor is on by putting the phone in front of another camera, but nothing is working. I've restarted my phone several times, but it would only work for a few minutes and would stop working again.
There's also a problem with the proximity sensor! During a call when I put the phone to my ear the screen would turn off, but when I take it off my ear to try to dial extension numbers, the screen wouldn't turn back on automatically, I have to press the home button for it to turn back on.
I also realized that after exiting an app and I want to go back to my home screen, the home button doesn't register, and requires a second press for it to go to the main home screen.
Anyone else experiencing bugs?!
There are way too many bugs on this update, please fix this!

I've not had any issues on my S4 like your describing. You may want to backup your data and reinitialize your phone using KAI's to refresh your software. It may have stumbled during the upgrade which can sometimes happen.
Only thing I can think of...

I updated my wife's Galaxy S4 4.4.2 via home wifi last week and so far everything is smooth sailing. I did the update late at night around 11:30 pm or so, and just left the computer and phone alone to do the update uninterrupted. My wife hasn't noticed any difference, probably because the S4 processor is so powerful coupled with 2GB of RAM.
I'm just waiting for AT&T to roll out the 4.4.2 update for my Samsung Galaxy S4 Active.

I am also having trouble since the update. I thought it had something to do with my S4 considering this is like my 7 or 8th replacement phone. I called Tech Support and I am getting a replacement AGAIN!
Here are my issues
I performed a hard reset and have only installed apps that I ABSOLUTELY NEED. Have done very little customization to the settings. It seems to be ok now, but who wants a phone with features that can't be used. This is horrible.
I get the replacement next week. Hopefully it will be better.

I'm a very disgruntled & upset customer to say the least!!! WHY would u ever test out upgrades on phone users???!!! My phone has not worked since the moment u did this 😬 It constantly freezes on me and goes black. In both cases it sends me out of where I am & I have to start all over every time , as it loses everything I've just typed...totally maddening! Also when I turn it horizontal to type, I cant see what I'm typing!! It also changed all of my emoticons to different expressions that dont look like they should. The freezing up & blacking out & no horizontal visibility is not acceptable....this must be fixed immediately!!! I cant reset cuz I will lose all of my organized info! Don't have time for all this nonsense.
It really is a broken so called upgrade.😠 Pls revert back to the original settings W/O losing any of my stuff....which is ALOT? Pls do NOT test on phones in use! TY.

You need to do a factory reset. I'm sorry but hook your phone to a computer pull all your data off it then factory reset the phone. That will fix most of the problems with the upgrade. I never don't reset my device when a update is pushed

Use a computer (mac or PC) to back up your phone with Kies ( download here: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/ ) then reset it, then restore. Yes, some of the customizations will have to be redone. But your phone will actually work, which is a plus.
Needing a hard reset isn't uncommon with major updates.

all your contacts are backed up to googles servers. as for the other things like has been said kies will take care of that for you. There is no way I would have that much data on my phone that is what cloud storage is for. Phones need reset way to often when there are software upgrades. You have to remember you upgraded from 4.3 to 4.4 thats a whole new software and some apps will not play nice with the new os
