S6 Active Issue

I bought a S6 active from Best Buy, and I live in India, and AT&T sent me an unlock code.  Everything seems to work here except call waiting and call forwarding.  When I try to open phone settings I recive and error saying "Sim or network Error" I tried changing my sim and that did not work.  I tried the same SIM in another phone and call forwarding/call waiting works.

From Reading here, https://forums.att.com/t5/Samsung-Discussion-Support/Note-4-N910AUCU1BNK3-Firmware-Update-Broke-my-Phone-Settings/td-p/4170378/highlight/false

It seems to be an AT&T firmware/account issue.  I am running 5.0.2.  Is there a way I can get this issue corrected since I am in India?  Through an update?  This is an issue that seems to affect a lot of people by the looks of it.

I tried chatting with support, but they transferred my three times, and were not really helpful.  Can anyone please shed some light on this issue?

Both of these features are carrier features. This is a common problem when you buy a carrier branded phone, and use off network.
You should contact your current carrier and Samsung, ATT can do nothing to help you.

Those features along with the hotspot feature wont work ever if the phone is not on the att network.

The phone is exclusive to ATT so samsung or your carrier cant help you.  And ATT can do nothing since the phone was only made to certified to work in the united states.  Your warranty is also null since you are using it outside the us.

I tried with my carrier, and they said it is a phone issue.  Like I mentioned, the current SIM I am using has call waiting and forwarding active on another phone.  I even changed the SIM initially and that didn't seem to help.

The posts that I have read all seem to say it is either a firmware/account issue.  Since I am not on AT&T's network, and I am in India, it probably can't be an account issue.

I was transferred to Samsung tech support by the AT&T person I was chatting with, but it apprently it is just for samsung computers, and they can't help me, and asked me to contact AT&T.

I have seen a Samsung Moderator post of ths forum.  At this point, I basically want to reach out to them, and let them know this issue exists, so that it can be looked into for the next update.  They seem to have ignored it in the past.

Does anyone have a samsung email id/contact I can reach out to for help?

see what I highlighted...  You will not get updates for the phone.  All updates are done over ATT's network.  The IMEI is checked in att's database and then the phone is told its ok to update OTA over wifi.  If you take a phone off the ATT network or any us carrier for that matter you will no longer get os updates.

My hotspot works, even 4G does (where available).  From my reading on this and pther forums, it seems to be an issue with Samsung devices.  Something to do with a firmware update.  I am running 5.0.2, so I am just hoping this gets looked at by the time the next update is rolled out.

your hotspot working is a plus.  Samsung has changed something.  Your issue has nothing to do with firmware its using the phone off the ATT network.

Have a read of this post on updates...

Thanks for sharing that link.  Now I am slightly confused.

People I know here who have had S5 Active's (also an AT&T exclusive phone) in the past, here in India, have recieved updates?  Have they changed anything since that phone?

My phone was unlocked throgh AT&T, and not through some third party, does that make a difference?  I requested a code on the AT&T website, and they sent me the code, because I qualified for it.

Now, that you have brought that up, would I be eligiable for an update if I used a friend's SIM while he was on international roaming?  I can download the update while on wifi.

Apart from that, is there any way I can reach Samsung, to let them know this issue exists so that it is taken care of, for at least other users within the US on AT&T?  I just want to be able to bring this to their attention.

The issue your having is a known issue on the NOTE 4 and has to do with account settings on atts backend systems.  I have not seen reports of it on any other s series phone.  I have the s6 920i and the ATT version in the house.

No the update has to be pushed thru att's network roaming will not work as far as I know.  now you could try it.

Those folks may have hacked there s5 actives to get the updates as the lollipop update used these new imei checks.  These started with lollipop.

Any suggestions on how I could possibly get it rectified since it isn't an AT&T issue as you pointed out?  Would Samsung be able to help me in any way?

They might have hacked their phones, I am not sure about that.  That is indeed unfortunate to hear, This is my first Samsung phone, after being with HTC since the G1, and even before with O2, as a windows phone.  I changed beacuse my last phone HTC One, just crashed for no appraent reason, and I was not able to restore any data.

I was really looking forward to a Samsung device, and this seemed to be the only rugged advanced smart phone.

Thanks for all your help.  If you do think of something in the future, please do let me know.
