RCS not working for all people since getting S22
Since getting my new S22, RCS no longer works with my wife. We are both on AT&T branded Samsung phones and using Google Messages. We both have chat features enabled. The only difference is that mine says it's "powered by AT&T" while hers says "powered by Jibe Mobile". Does AT&T's RCS seriously not interact with Jibe Mobile RCS? Furthermore, why wouldn't there be consistency within AT&T on this? They are both AT&T phones purchased through AT&T and used on the AT&T network.

I'm a long-time iPhone user, and i just switched and got the new s22 ultra. My husband has the s21 ultra, we both use at&t, same plan. I cant use the google messages chat features when messaging him.. it just sends sms. I wanted to switch to be able to more seamlessly communicate bc ios and android dont have great compatibility... and now i cant do that. Its been incredibly frustrating after figuring out its not a connectivity issue, but an at&t issue.

Ok I've done some testing. I unlocked my ATT S22 ultra. I inserted my work sim card, which is Verizon. no changes to the messages app. Guess what? RCS worked with Jibe. I took out that sim card and inserted my ATT sim card. Messages defaulted back to ATT. I postulate that messages is detecting the carrier and defaulting to whatever agreement they have with said carrier.
This is terrible for messages because ATT has actively made their product worse. The only way to solve the issue is to switch to another carrier or change your device. This is bad customer service to make a working feature many people have been using for years worse and to break it completely with the hopes that ATT will get it's RCS act together. This is the original reason Google went with Jibe as a work around to begin with, carriers were not acting in the best interest of their own consumers.

@ATTHelp - What's the status of this? As it currently stands, I am unable to rich chat to other Samsung devices (Note 20, to be specific) that are on YOUR network and using Google Messages powered by Jibe. It looks like the Android community and media are starting to pick up on this so I hope that a resolution can be found quickly.

According to AT&T, this is improved. What a big stinking joke! They crashed RCS. Here's my scenario: Galaxy Note 20U and Galaxy S22. Both are on Unlimited Elite Plan. Note 20U has vanilla Google Messages powered by Jibe. S22 has Samsung-skinned Google Messages powered by AT&T. Both show RCS Chat is enabled. The major problem: The S22 really isn't using Chat features. It sends SMS and not RCS to my Note 20U. Do something AT&T!!!!!!! Stop telling us your platform is advanced and improved when in reality you've done nothing to make it useable.

I guess if @ATTHelp can't actually help with real answers I will just return my s22 and cancel my 7 lines. I have been with att since it was cingular wireless. Change might be good since my friend has 0 issues with Verizon version

AT&T why are you locking down an open platform? The whole point of RCS is to be open with other devices and carriers. This is a step backwards...please fix this for your customers! You will lose customers over this!

Update: I went in and spoke with at&t just now, they said we'd have to wait for an update or upgrade for my husband (s21 ultra) for this issue to be fixed. Incredibly frustrating.

@Tiredmom0218 if the issue originated on the S22, why does the S21 need a software fix. The S22 needs the fix to make it backwards compatible.

@ATTHelp has been no help. They have gone silent because they know it is their issue.
I would encourage everyone to reach out to ATT, but also Google. If this doesn't change, then you are still within your return period and there are other phones and networks out there where this is not an issue.
