My Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) won't access AT&T's 5g Network

My Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) won't access AT&T's 5g network.  It works on 4G LTE.  My prepaid plan has 5G capabilities.  I few weeks back I called customer service and they indicated I should be accessing the 5G network with my phone but could not give me an explanation as to why I wasn't.  I went by my local AT&T store today and they tried changing the sim card with no success.

Is the phone an AT&T branded device? If you are using an unlocked device, it may not get 5G.  If it is AT&T branded, and other people in your area are getting 5G, call AT&T and ask them if your account is provisioned correctly.

By the way there are considerable complaints about 5G not being all it's cracked up to be. If you have good 4G LTE, I'd almost suggest you leave it alone.

Hello @Lampasas

We'll be happy to help you with the steps to receive 5G signal when you're in an 5G area!

Since you have 5G capable device, it will connect to the nearest 5g tower network if available automatically. If for some reason it doesn't, switch to your 5g network.

Please follow the steps below to receive your 5g service.

  • Open Settings
  • Select Connectons
  • Select Mobile Networks
  • Select Network Mode
  • Tap the option that includes 5G connectivity, or GLOBAL
  • Restart your phone

Once you restart your phone, you should see the 5G signal. Please let us lknow if you have any additional questions. If so, we'll be more happy to asssit .

Hi formerlyknownas and Kailonie,

My phone did not come from AT&T. I purchased the phone from Visible when I used their service for a short time.  The model showed to be compatible with AT&T when I switched over. Maybe this is the problem.

Kailonie, when I open settings there is not an option to select Connections.  I searched all the setting choices and I couldn't find a place to select Network Mode either.  This really strange.  By the way we have a very strong 5g signal in this area.

Thanks for your help.

Thank you formerlyknownas, Kailonie J, Glimmerman76 and DylanD.  I am disappointed I can't use the 5g service with my Moto phone (it's like new} but the AT&T coverage is much better than Visible (Verizon) or T-Mobile in this part of the world so I will live with 4G LTE.

I do appreciate all of your responses.  This is a good group.

Oh by the way, thank you DylanD for the device capability list.  It will be useful if I decide to purchase another phone in the future.
