Message 6 when calling one number from one location, but call goes through elsewhere.

Last week I started getting the "call cannot be completed" message when calling my mother's cell phone. I've called for years without this issue and calling using other methods such as Skype, etc. work fine. I thought she may have my number blocked but when I am on the road or in another location the cell call goes through no problem. I'm wondering if there is an issue with the cell tower near my home that is preventing these calls.

The error message is Message 6 PA 02 UL. As this looks more specific to a state than the "US" error message 6 I've seen on the forums is it possible this is a specific cell tower issue? I am located in NJ and my mother is in PA.

Hello @Tracher,

Thank you for providing us with those additional details.

We're not seeing any ongoing service issues affecting any of the areas that you've mentioned as of right now.

Does your mother also have AT&T as her wireless service provider?

If not, has she already had a chance to reach out to her carrier for further investigation?

If she is with AT&T, we recommend that you review this forums post on Dropped calls and Connectivity issues, which contains some great tips for people who are experiencing service issues..

She could also benefit from Staying connected with Wi-Fi Calling to talk and text over any active Wi-Fi connection.

Let us know if this was helpful!

Hello @Tracher,

We'd be more than happy to take a closer look into why your phone calls haven't been going through sometimes.

Please provide us with a few more details, so that we can better assist you:

  • What is the make and model of the wireless device that you're using?
  • Is your cell phone's software up to date?
  • Does this occur with any other contacts when you try to call them?
  • Also, what is the zip code for the immediate area where you experience this problem?

Please let us know.

In the meantime, you can use our Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool to fix Phone Call issues. Simply select your device and the issue, then follow the steps to find a solution.

We hope this helps and look forward to hearing back from you soon!

Thank you Sean,

I have a OnePlus 6 and have verified that my system software is up to date. I have not experienced this issue with other numbers in the same area, including cell phones in the same home as my mother when I call. I find the issue when calling from the 08610 zip code and calling into the 18505 area.

Some additional things I've tried since my initial post was adding a 1 before the number, updating contact information, and calling different times of day to try to troubleshoot or isolate the problem but with no success. I recently was in the 08879 area and had no issues calling the number, so I believe that eliminates the number being blocked.

Thanks again Sean for the quick reply!

She is with another carrier so I will work with her to follow up with her service provider. If we do come up with a solution I will be sure to post for you and others. Just one additional twist is I can text her just fine, so not affecting that service.

Thanks for the help!
