Galaxy s6 hotspot not working

Hello guys, I recently bought a galaxy s6 32gb (white) on at&t. I have been trying to use the phone's hotspot but all my attempts seem useless. This is how it goes: I access the Mobile Hotspot and Tethering and follow by turning the Hotspot on. However, while there isn't any error message coming up, none of my devices can't connect to it! I have tried using Blackberry, Samsung and even Apple but none is able to connect to my hotspot. I have configured the hotspot over and over by changing the name, password... I don't want to go to the store without some external opinions. What do you guys think it could be and what should I do? Thank you.

Try using ATT All Access found in the Play Store as an alternate way to set up your hotspot. If your plan wasn't provisioned for tethering, you would receive an error asking you to call customer care, so I believe it's likely a device setting.

TitaniumMettle,

I tried using the suggested app but it didn't work either. Turns out that with this app the hotspot won't even show on other devices. I'm allowed by my carrier to use hotspot but it seems like a hardware issue... I'll proceed to take it to AT&T. Thank you.

GLIMMERMAN76,

I don't have unlimited data plan. In fact, I have the 10gig family plan but I am almost certain that is not the problem. My brother who is in the same data plan uses his hotspot without any issue (iPhone 6). Thank you.

Was your phone line on a previous Family Talk shared plan before being on teh Mobile Share plan?  If so, it is possible that the account was never fully provisioned for tethering on your phone.  It would have been disabled before, and it might not have been properly enabled.  You could try calling *611 to see if they can check the line setup to make sure that the tethering service is enabled.

Hi there @Thirdquarter

I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing issues connecting to your mobile hotspot! I’d be happy to help! As @GeekBoy has suggested, we may be dealing with a simple provisioning error. Can you please send me a private message by Clicking Here and include the following information?

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Cell number
  • Device IMEI number (dial *#06#)

Thanks!

I just got S6 edge as well and am experiencing the exact same issue. My previous S4 connected hotspot to my work laptop flawlessly allowing me the flexibility to work from home. But the new phone doesn't work correctly costing me an unwanted daily 50 mile round trip to the office - a major cost in time and expense. Not what anyone wants from the latest and greatest.

The reception bars are full. It says excellent reception, but my Internet pages won't open. If this isn't fixed asap I'm returning my Samsung for an Apple.

Hi! My sister gave me this same phone but the ACTIVE version unlocked. I use CLARO chip and it works fine but it won't work the hotspot. Is there a way of fixing it? I don't know much about this. Thanks 😊

Thanks.

there actually is an error message just not the kind were used to i.e."error code: 101", what will show up,if your provider is AT&T is this

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ph1msarof3zwh10/error%20code.png?dl=0

as for how to fix its quite easy you just go to your settings then scroll down till you see general management from there you want to press reset and choose reset network settings which will reset your phones connection settings i.e. wifi passwords and so forth will be gone and you will have to re input the passwords to previously connected wifis and should enable  your phone to use hot spot once again

A special thanks to Kimberly W. from AT&T's 611 service she found this solution without even being able to access the account (due to me not being the acc owner nor knowing the password to the account)!!!
