SIM card and pre-paid AT&T plan not working after one year of not using it

I have been using a SIM card with pre-paid AT&T plan until I had to leave the US and live abroad for a year and a half due to COVID. I am planning to go back soon and was trying to activate the plan again. However, when I tried to activate it, the website keeps telling me that the SIM card number is incorrect and that my account in PayGoOnline is incorrect.

I would like to have a phone number and plan paid before going to the US so that I can have access to phone calls right after arriving.

Is there anything I could do to solve this problem?

A prepaid account is automatically closed if the account balance is $0 for more than 60 days. Unless you’ve been paying or refilling your account to prevent that, your account has been closed. You will need to open a new account with a new SIM card and new number. It is possible to acquire a new SIM card and activate it from abroad but you won’t be able to activate a plan until you return. You would need to purchase the sim card from a non ATT source as ATT won’t ship one abroad.
