Keeping my number when switching to Verizon
I have had my phone number for 20 years. I'm switching to Verizon. I was told I needed a pin number from AT&T to do it. AT&T didn't recognize my prepaid account number. I now have a new number but would like to get my old number back. Can this be done?

The same way you port any number. Verizon will need your prepaid account number and account pin. You need to call to get your account number but if Verizon says they don’t recognize the account number, not sure what to tell you. Are you sure you gave them the correct account number? Is your prepaid service still active? It needs to be to port. You can’t port if service expired or if the account was closed. The account pin is something you set yourself.

Yes. Since you haven’t actually ported your number yet, it’s still on ATT. You can still port your number to Verizon. Your ATT SIM card should still be active. You use your account pin to port a prepaid number. Transfer pins are for postpaid.

My AT-T account was a prepaid account. How do I port the number with a prepaid account?

Just re-read your response. When I called the att prepaid number, they didn't recognize my account. I got frustrated and gave up, not wanting to spend all Saturday talking to att. Can I still port the number? I have both the new and old phone number active for the next month as my old prepaid account just renewed.

Just called att again and this time they gave me the account number and pin. So I will now call Verizon and see what I can do. Thanks so much for your help!
