VPN ATT family secure & companion

My daughter Internet was suddenly not working. It said no internet connection.  We spent hours trying to find out what it was. Turns out it was the VPN on her phone for the att secure app. This is not a new app for us. I’ve always liked it. Never had a problem until she got a new phone recently and it made me reconnect or pair our phones. When I did it made me do the VPN which I did not remember it doing in the past. Soon as she deleted the vpn her internet suddenly works. Only down side is I cannot control the internet on her phone since the VPN is off. I cannot pause the internet anymore. I am unsure why all of sudden this app started causing issues with this Vpn. I pay for this app and I’m not very happy this is going on. I’ve tried to search the internet and the forum for answers but no luck. I’ve found similar complaints but att doesn’t give a true answer of what to do.
