How do I port my old ATT number.
I had an ATT land line number for 25+ yrs and then now only use a mobile number with another carrier. I would like to "own" or use the old land line number so I can eventually connect it to my mobile number using google voice. I understand the number has to be ported to a mobile number and I will need to purchase a mobile phone/plan to transfer "briefly" to a google voice number. So, I can then access calls thru my mobile number ( different carrier, Not ATT). BTW, I do have a ATT Internet account, but that's the only ATT account I currently have. Any help with this process, is appreciated in advance.

Thanks for your reply. I had cancelled the land line a few years ago. When I dial the old number, it doesn't ring and gives the message " either the number you dialed is not a working number or must be dialed with correct area code and 7 digits"... so does that mean it's been cancelled? If no one is using the number.. If I establish another land line to my home can i get that number back then? And, then eventually port to mobile number?

Hi nnmoore, we can address your inquiry about porting your old Landline number.
Thank you, Constructive, for the helpful information.
A phone number has to be active for it to be ported. Since you cancelled service, the number can no longer be ported.
We also do not have the ability to choose a specific phone number when establishing new Landline service.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

Once you closed that account without porting the line first, the number became inaccessible to you. Sorry.

Unfortunately these are all correct. You cannot request the number back even with AT&T. And you cannot port a number that does not exist because you canceled it. It doesn't matter whether or not someone is using it or not.

Oh.. darn..Thanks everyone for your answers & help!! Pretty sure porting a number wasn't even and option or available when I canceled land line years ago. Just thinking of all my lost friends and associates dialing my old number.. LOL! Appreciate your response.
