Tips On How You Can Keep Your Device Safe!

Setup Passwords on your device

The easiest way into your device is not having a security code. This is step 1, secure your device so only you have access to it!

Your lock screen picture

It says a lot about you depending on the image you use. Don’t use an image that may entice someone to take it.

Keep your phone up to date

OS updates happen often and some of these updates patch possible security risks. Having a rooted phone increases your device's vulnerability.

Know what sites you are going to

Some sites may be unsafe and can carry viruses, malware, and spyware that can affect your device. Do not open a link that you feel may be unsafe! If you do click on a link, close the windows immediately.

Be cautious of installing apps to your device

Some apps require permission to use certain features on your device. Some use your camera and mic. While this may be a legitimate request, there is the possibility for abuse. Reading the reviews of the apps is highly recommended.

Review the apps on your device frequently

Verify what permissions each app has on your device. You have the option to remove these permissions. If you do not use an app, delete it. There are some free security apps like McAfee and Avast you can use to help keep your apps secure.

Be prepared to track and lock your phone!

Both Apple and Google have apps that allow you to track your device. If it is lost or stolen, find it now!

Disable automatic sign-in

Some apps allow you to sign in automatically. If these are banking apps, or other apps that have personal information, disable that feature.

Beware of open Wi-Fi

There are always risk using open Wi-Fi and you never know who is on it on what they may be doing.

Warn yourself!

If you have an Apple Watch or Android watch, there is a feature you can use to be notified when your phone loses Bluetooth contact.

AT&T Call Protect

I used both private relay and AT&T Active Armour and my iPhone was still hacked. I’ve had every account imaginable compromised and impersonated. Money gone. Emails, texts, calls all either never recireved/not sent and/or redirected. The amount of discomfort this has caused me, is staggering. No one wants to help either. My AT&T Apple IPhone 11  that was hacked using both companies supposed protection services, is not their responsibility. So eff me I guess right

We just started using streaming WiFi from DIRECT NOW TV.

This isn't even a thing...

Using your secured home Wi-Fi connection for DirecTV streaming service does not open up anything to being hacked. Your home Wi-Fi is a secured system and has a password no one else can access.

If you're having a problem with your phones, it has nothing to do with your home Wi-Fi connection and everything to do with what you put on your phone.

If you opened a Spam link, or downloaded malware with a sketchy application, or if you have email that is not 2 step authenticated, that means anyone can hack the email password that is related to your account on your phone.

To get you started, this is how to 2FA a Google account.

Just be careful when you're two step verify your Google account with your cell phone number, don't lose your cell phone number by giving it up for any reason. Because that would block you from being able to access your Google account. Some of these two Factor authentication also allow you a recovery method like another email or another phone number. Pay close attention to this because you can lock everyone else out, but you can also accidentally lock yourself out.
