FEATURE REQUEST - HBO Max/Max upgrade to ultimate tier

Hello, I have the unlimited elite plan with free HBO Max. When HBO Max change to just Max they changed their tier structure. The unlimited elite plan originally provided access to the highest tier which included 4K content and Dolby Atmos sound. After the name change to Max, AT&T now only provides access to the ad-free tier which excludes 4K content and Dolby Atmos sound.

I would like to request AT&T upgrade from the ad free tier to the ultimate tier in order to retain access to 4K content and Dolby Atmos sound. If this will not be acceptable, then please provide an upgrade option to pay for the difference in cost.

Same. Very disappointed to lose 4K, HDR, and Atmos. Willing to pay the difference in plans to get those necessary features back.

AT&T wants to get rid of all the free HBO, no way they make any changes. An option to pay the difference for those getting it free from a wireless or internet plan would have to be done by Directv. Remember, Directv is now a separate company, ATT only has partial ownership.

Hello condragulations, we're here to provide information about MAX formerly known as HBO Max.

AT&T customers will continue to have access to 4K and 2 consecutive streams in their grandfathered plans until a date yet to be determined. Eligible AT&T customers are not currently in the Max AD-Free or Max Ultimate Ad-Free plan they are in a grandfathered version. Customers will still have access to their original HBO Max plan feature for a minimum of six months following the launch of Max.

Have others been able to confirm they are getting 4K / Atmos or know how to confirm? My Max subscription is labeled as just “Ad-Free” in the Max app, so it’s hard to tell.

Hi there, bretajohnson. Here's what you need to know about confirming that you're getting 4K / Atmos with your Max subscription.

Ad-Free subscribers do have 4K UHD video quality. You can see if a movie or show is available in 4K Dolby Vision by looking in the title's description.

If a title supports Dolby Atmos a small logo should appear under the title. It should be to the right of the icon for Ultra HD resolution.

We hope this information helps. Let us know if you need any assistance with AT&T products and services.

Thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums.

As for me, I checked Avatar (the new one) and it was indeed playing in 4K DolbyVision on Max on my Fire TV Cube, per what my TV reports for signal type. So it seems that I still have it, at least for now.

The “grace” period is reported to be 6 months from the launch of Max. After that time it is rumored that existing customers will have to cancel and then re-subscribe to one of the three new tiers as Max will be totally free of AT&T. Whether AT&T will offer existing subscribers a chance to upgrade and transfer is unknown. Stand-alone subscribers who had an Ad-free subscription (I’m one) will continue to receive 4k HDR during the grace period. After that, we will have to upgrade to the Ultimate level if we want to continue with 4k HDR/Atmos.

I don’t know why mine is the lower tier, so much for 6 months. Checked it again and I’m still not getting Dolby vision and atmos :/

..... and you probably won't because WBD/Max and AT&T can't get on the same page.
