Adding esim line to existing family plan
I have an esim-capable iPhone as part of a family plan. I wish to add a second line to that phone for business use to keep business/private separate. The phone is locked to AT&T. Can I add an AT&T esim line, and will it incur additional charges? Can the additional line be part of the family plan? What will it cost? How do I do it?

Yes it costs and yes you can add the 2nd line to a family plan as long as its on ATT. I suggest you do look into how it works. Keeping things separate is not as easy as you think. I have a ATT sim card and Tmo esim.

Yes you can add esim service with AT&T.
The cost will be the same as adding any other line to your account.
How much that is depends on which plan you have, and how much it costs to add another line to that plan. Some of the older plans had a fixed line cost at 15 20 or $25. The Legacy Unlimited Plan would cost about $50 more. The current unlimited plans are scaled so that the more lines, the less each one costs (up to 5 or 6 lines).
If you check your bill online it will show you which plan you have oh, and it might even tell you what the line access fee is.

Converting to esim isn't adding a line
