I bought a new home with this system already installed. The keypad is reading communication error. How can I reset this so that I can arm & disarm the system?

We just had digital life installed but they talked me out of the motion detection because we have 3 cats...I've had a security system for 10 years and never had trouble so I found it odd that this brand new thing can't handle the pets...does anyone have the motion and have problems with pets?

My installer told me there was a setting the in the motion sensor that could be configured so it wouldn't go off with my cat running around the house.  I can't find any info on that option????
